Worktop Repair Guarantees: What to Expect and What to Ask For

Before booking any professional surface repair, it’s reasonable to ask about the guarantee. Understanding what a reputable repair guarantee covers — and what it doesn’t — helps you make an informed choice between suppliers and gives you recourse if a repair fails prematurely.

What a Standard Repair Guarantee Should Cover

A professional surface repair guarantee should cover the repair itself failing — the compound lifting, cracking, discolouring significantly or falling out — under normal use conditions within the guarantee period. At Shazam Repairs, all our repairs are guaranteed against material and workmanship defects.

What a Guarantee Won’t Cover

Be cautious about overly broad guarantee claims. Legitimate exclusions typically include:

  • New damage to the repair from impact, abrasion or misuse
  • Changes in the repair’s appearance due to use of harsh cleaning chemicals
  • Gradual colour change in the surrounding worktop (which makes the original repair less closely matched over time)
  • Structural failures of the underlying surface that cause the repair to fail

How Long Should a Guarantee Be?

A standard professional repair guarantee of 12 months is reasonable. Longer guarantees (2–5 years) on chip repairs that use quality two-part compounds are achievable with reputable providers. Be sceptical of very short guarantees (under 6 months) — this may indicate the provider isn’t confident in their materials or workmanship.

Getting a Guarantee in Writing

Any guarantee should be provided in writing — either on the invoice or as a separate document. Verbal guarantees are difficult to enforce. A reputable repair company should have no hesitation in providing a written guarantee for their work.
