Solid wood and timber worktops are a perennial favourite in UK kitchens — warm, natural and characterful. But they require more maintenance than stone or laminate surfaces and are vulnerable to scratches, burn marks, staining and water damage if not properly sealed and cared for. These marks can often be bleached out with oxalic acid treatment and then re-sanded and re-oiled. White rings (from condensation under hot cups) are surface-level and respond well to gentle sanding and re-treatment.
