Fitted Furniture Surface Repair: Wardrobes, Vanity Units and Built-In Storage

Chipped, scratched or damaged fitted furniture — wardrobes, vanity units, dressing tables, alcove shelving and built-in storage — is a common problem in UK homes. Because fitted furniture is made to measure and often discontinued, replacement of individual panels can be extremely difficult and expensive. Surface repair offers a practical alternative.

Types of Fitted Furniture Surface Damage We Repair

  • Chips to door edges and corners
  • Scratches across door panels or drawer fronts
  • Impact dents in painted or foil-wrapped MDF
  • Damage to painted furniture carcasses
  • Chipped or cracked vanity unit tops
  • Damage to wardrobe interiors from hangers or shoe storage

What Surfaces Can Be Repaired?

Most fitted furniture is made from MDF or particleboard with one of several finish types: high-gloss lacquer (common in handleless kitchens and bedrooms), foil wrap, laminate, or painted wood. Each finish type requires a different repair approach.

High-Gloss Furniture

Chips to high-gloss lacquered doors are filled with colour-matched compound and re-lacquered with gloss polishing to match the surrounding finish. Results on solid or near-solid colours are very good.

Matt and Painted Furniture

Matt painted furniture is repaired with colour-matched touch-up, often using a micro-spray technique for feathered blending on larger areas.
