Dekton is one of the hardest worktop materials on the market — an ultra-compact sintered surface made by fusing raw materials under extreme heat and pressure. It’s UV-resistant, heat-resistant and highly scratch-resistant. But “ultra-compact” doesn’t mean unbreakable, and Dekton can and does chip. Shazam Repairs carries out professional Dekton worktop repair for chips and edge damage on this demanding material.
Why Dekton Chips Differently to Quartz
Dekton’s extreme hardness is part of why it chips in a particular way. Unlike quartz, which has a resin binder that gives it a degree of flexibility, Dekton is fully sintered throughout — harder than most natural stones and with no resin component. This means:
- Chips tend to be cleaner and more angular than on quartz
- The material around a chip is extremely stable — chips rarely propagate further
- Colour is consistent through the full thickness of the slab, which helps with repair matching
- The surface is non-porous and very smooth, which creates a different polishing challenge
Can Dekton Be Repaired?
Yes — localised chips and edge damage on Dekton can be repaired using specialist ultra-hard resin systems. The challenge with Dekton is that the material’s extreme density makes adhesion to the repair area more demanding than on quartz or granite. Our technicians use specifically formulated repair products with appropriate surface preparation to achieve reliable, durable results.
Colour matching on Dekton’s more complex patterns (particularly the large-format vein designs in the Liquid series) requires skill and patience. Solid and subtle-texture Dekton colours repair more straightforwardly.
Common Dekton Damage
- Corner chips — the most common failure point, particularly at the 90° corner where two edges meet
- Edge chips — along the front profiled edge of the worktop
- Sink cutout chips — around the basin opening where precise cutting creates stress points
- Installation damage — chips incurred during delivery or fitting
