Composite Sink Repair: Chips and Damage on Blanco, Franke Fragranite and Schock

Granite composite sinks — sold under brand names including Blanco Silgranit, Franke Fragranite, Schock and Pyramis — are a popular choice in modern UK kitchens. Extremely durable, heat-resistant and available in a wide range of colours, they look great and last for years. But they can chip — and when they do, the damage can be surprisingly visible on these premium surfaces. This guide covers composite sink chip repair in detail.

What Makes Composite Sinks Different?

Granite composite sinks are typically 80% stone particle (granite or quartz) bound with an acrylic resin matrix. They’re manufactured in single piece moulds and are significantly harder and heavier than acrylic or stainless steel sinks. The material is consistent throughout — there’s no separate surface layer — which means chip repairs need to match the full depth of the material, not just a surface coating.

Where Composite Sinks Typically Chip

  • The inner basin rim — the most common impact point from pots, pans and kitchen tools
  • Around the waste outlet — where items rest and impact when placed in the sink
  • The outer rim — where the sink meets the worktop, sometimes impacted by items on the worktop
  • The drainer surface — from chopping boards, heavy ceramic dishes and cookware

Colour Matching on Composite Sinks

This is the most technically demanding aspect of composite sink repair. The material contains visible stone particles that give the surface its texture and speckled appearance. Matching both the base colour and the particle distribution requires professional-grade pigments and techniques. Repairs on darker composite colours (anthracite, black, graphite) are typically more visible than on lighter colours if the match isn’t perfect.

Blanco Silgranit Repair

Blanco Silgranit is one of the most popular composite sink materials in the UK, available in a wide range of colours. Chips are repaired using matched composite resins applied in multiple layers, cured, and then sanded and polished to restore the surface texture and sheen.
