What Is SILGRANIT?
SILGRANIT is Blanco’s proprietary composite granite material, made from approximately 80% granite particle and 20% acrylic resin binder. It’s available in a wide range of colours and has excellent resistance to heat, staining, and everyday kitchen use. However, like all composite materials, it can chip under concentrated impact — particularly at the rim, at the drainer edge, or at the bowl corners.
Types of SILGRANIT and Composite Sink Damage
Chips at the Rim
The most common damage location — rim chips are caused by heavy pots, tins, or utensils dropped into the sink at the wrong angle. The chip exposes the composite substrate, which can discolour and become more noticeable over time.
Scratches
SILGRANIT is scratch-resistant but not scratch-proof. Metal utensils, metal pan racks, and abrasive cleaning pads can leave fine scratches over time. Light surface scratches can often be minimised by specialist polishing; deep scratches may require localised repair.
Staining
Despite its stain resistance, certain agents — particularly limescale combined with iron-rich water — can leave persistent marks. Strong bleaches used incorrectly can also cause surface discolouration. Some staining can be treated; bleached or oxidised discolouration may require surface refinishing.
Colour Matching Composite Sinks
Blanco SILGRANIT sinks are available in over 20 colours. Colour matching a repair requires the specific colour name or reference if possible — matching composite materials requires specialist pigmented repair compounds. Darker colours (Antracite, Café, Rock Grey) are typically easier to match than lighter or warmer tones.
