Kitchen Worktop Repair FAQ: 15 Questions Answered

Here are answers to the fifteen most frequently asked questions about kitchen worktop chip and crack repair in the UK.

1. Can any worktop be repaired?

Most worktop materials can be repaired to some degree — granite, quartz, marble, Corian, composite, laminate and ceramic. The quality of result varies by material and damage type.

2. How visible will the repair be?

On plain-coloured surfaces a skilled repair should be nearly invisible under normal lighting. Complex patterned surfaces may show the repair under close inspection but are inconspicuous in normal use.

3. How long does a repair take?

A single chip repair typically takes 1–2 hours including curing time.

4. How long does the repair last?

A professional two-part epoxy repair should last many years with normal care — avoiding heavy impact to the repair, using appropriate cleaning products and not placing very hot items directly on the surface.

5. Does it matter how old the chip is?

Fresh chips repair more easily. Old chips may have accumulated staining or discolouration around the edges. Repair is still possible but may require more preparation.

6. Can a crack be repaired?

Hairline cracks in stone can often be injected with coloured resin. Large cracks may require section replacement.

7. Can scratches be repaired?

Light surface scratches on solid surface (Corian) can be polished out. Deep scratches on quartz or granite are harder — the pattern below the surface can’t be sanded back.

8. Do I need to move out of my kitchen?

No. Repair is done in-situ. You’ll need to keep the worktop clear around the repair area and avoid the area while curing (typically 1–2 hours).

9. Can burn marks be repaired?

Burn marks on laminate and composite worktops can be repaired if the damage hasn’t gone too deep. Scorch marks on stone worktops are usually surface-level and often respond well to repair.

10. Is repair worth it on an old kitchen?

Yes, if you’re not imminently replacing the kitchen. Repair maintains the surface and prevents further deterioration until you’re ready to renovate.

11. What if I used a DIY repair kit first?

DIY fillers can be removed and professional repair applied, though it may require additional preparation. Tell us if a DIY product has been applied so we can factor this in.

12. Can you match my specific quartz brand?

We match by colour and visual appearance rather than brand code. Send photos in daylight for the most accurate assessment.

13. Do you offer a guarantee?

Yes — all Shazam Repairs work is guaranteed. If a repair fails under normal use conditions, we’ll return to rectify it.

14. Can you repair chips to the underside of the worktop edge?

Yes — edge chips (including eased, bevelled and upstand edges) are common and repairable. Send photos showing the edge profile.

15. How do I get a quote?

Send clear photos of the damage in good daylight via our contact page. We’ll provide a fixed-price quote, usually within 24 hours. Get a free quote now →
