Dekton by Cosentino is one of the most technically advanced worktop materials on the market — an ultra-compact sintered stone surface that combines silica, glass and porcelain under extreme heat and pressure. It’s extraordinarily hard and heat-resistant, but this hardness makes it brittle, and chips and cracks can and do occur.
Why Dekton Chips and Cracks
Dekton’s extreme hardness (approximately 8.5 on the Mohs scale) means impacts that would only scratch quartz can cause Dekton to chip or fracture. Edge impacts are particularly susceptible — dropping a heavy pan onto the edge or corner of a Dekton slab can cause a clean break. Internal stress cracks near cutouts (sinks, hobs) are also reported.
How Dekton is Repaired
Dekton repair uses colour-matched two-part epoxy compounds, carefully mixed to match the specific Dekton colour and pattern. Because Dekton’s colours are often more complex — featuring subtle veining, movement and tonal variation — colour matching requires skill and experience. The repair is built up in layers, cured, then sanded level and polished to match the original surface finish.
What Results to Expect
On plain and near-plain Dekton colours, repair results can be very good — the fill is colour-matched and polished to match the surrounding surface. On complex veined Dekton patterns, the repair is visible on close inspection but inconspicuous under normal use conditions. We’ll always advise honestly on achievable results for your specific slab.
Dekton Warranty and Repair
Cosentino offers a 25-year warranty on Dekton — but chips from impact are not covered under warranty. Third-party professional repair is the appropriate route for impact damage.
