How to Clean and Maintain a Repaired Worktop or Bath Surface

After professional surface repair, proper aftercare ensures the repair lasts as long as possible and the surrounding surface stays in good condition. Here’s what to do — and what to avoid — once your worktop or bath has been repaired.

The First 24–48 Hours After Repair

Most professional two-part epoxy repair compounds reach full cure within 24–48 hours at room temperature. During this period, avoid placing hot items directly on the repair, avoid heavy pressure on the repaired area, and keep the surface dry if possible. Your technician will advise on the specific cure time for the materials used.

Cleaning a Repaired Worktop

  • Use mild, pH-neutral cleaners — avoid acidic cleaners (vinegar, lemon-based) or bleach-based products on stone surfaces
  • Wipe spills promptly — especially on marble and limestone where acid etching can occur
  • Use a soft cloth or non-scratch sponge — abrasive pads can scratch the polished finish
  • Avoid drain cleaners near quartz or stone — the alkaline content can damage the surface

Cleaning a Repaired Bath

  • Avoid abrasive bathroom cleaners or scouring pads on acrylic or enamel baths
  • Use cream cleaners applied with a soft cloth for general cleaning
  • Avoid aerosol spray cleaners containing acetone or strong solvents on acrylic surfaces

What Shortens Repair Life?

The most common causes of repair failure are: heavy impact to the repaired area (which can dislodge the fill), chemical attack from inappropriate cleaners, and thermal shock (placing very hot pans directly on repaired stone). Avoid all three and a professional repair should last many years.
