Corian is DuPont’s brand of solid surface worktop — a blend of acrylic polymer and alumina trihydrate that creates a seamless, non-porous work surface with a distinctive matte sheen. It’s widely used in kitchens, bathrooms and commercial environments. Unlike stone worktops, Corian is actually more forgiving to repair — its consistent composition and workable surface respond very well to professional restoration techniques.
Burn Marks on Corian
Corian is not heat-resistant. A hot pan, a lit cigarette or a kettle placed directly on the surface can cause burn marks ranging from surface discolouration to deep charring. The good news is that Corian’s solid composition means burn damage can often be sanded and refinished, essentially removing the burned layer and restoring the fresh surface below. This is one of Corian’s key advantages over stone surfaces where burns are more challenging to address.
Scratch Repair on Corian
Scratches in Corian — from knives, utensils or grit — can typically be buffed out with progressively finer abrasives, as the scratch is removed from the surface layer without exposing a different material beneath. For deeper scratches, filling with colour-matched solid surface adhesive followed by sanding achieves excellent results.
Corian Chip Repair
Chips in Corian are less common than in stone surfaces because the material is less brittle, but they do occur at edges and corners. Chips are filled with colour-matched solid surface adhesive, cured, sanded flush and then polished or matted to match the surrounding surface texture.
