When you invest in a professional surface repair, you want confidence that the repair will last. This guide explains what a quality surface repair guarantee should cover, what worktop manufacturer warranties actually include (and don’t include), and what questions to ask before booking a repair.
What a Repair Guarantee Should Cover
A professional repair guarantee should cover the integrity of the repair itself — that the filled material won’t lift, shrink or discolour under normal kitchen conditions. It should not be confused with a guarantee that the repaired area is immune to new damage (it isn’t — and nor is the original surface). A typical professional repair guarantee covers:
- Adhesion of the repair compound to the substrate
- Colour stability under normal light and temperature conditions
- The repair not sinking or lifting within the guarantee period
What Worktop Manufacturer Warranties Do NOT Cover
Almost all worktop warranties — quartz, granite, Corian, Dekton, laminate — explicitly exclude accidental damage. A chip from a dropped object, a crack from thermal shock, a scratch from poor surface care — none of these are covered by the manufacturer’s warranty regardless of how recently the worktop was installed. Manufacturer warranties cover defects in manufacturing, not accidental damage.
Does a Professional Repair Affect the Manufacturer Warranty?
This is a common concern. In practice, if the damage was from accidental impact (not a manufacturing defect), the warranty is already void for that damage — so a professional repair does not change your warranty position. If you have an outstanding warranty claim for a defect, it is worth raising this with the manufacturer first before arranging a repair.
