Booking a surface repair is straightforward — but many customers aren’t sure what to expect on the day. Here’s a clear, practical guide to what happens from the moment our technician arrives to the moment they leave, so you know exactly what you’re signing up for.
Before the Appointment
You’ll have received a confirmed appointment time and a quote based on the photos of the damage you shared. There’s nothing specific you need to do to prepare — just make sure the damaged surface is accessible and clear of items on or around it.
On Arrival
Your technician will arrive with a fully stocked kit covering all the materials needed for your repair type. They’ll introduce themselves, take a look at the damage in person, and confirm the repair approach before starting any work. If the damage is more or less extensive than the photos suggested, they’ll discuss this with you before proceeding.
During the Repair
- Surface preparation — the area around the chip is cleaned and any loose material removed
- Colour matching — the technician selects and blends repair compounds on-site to match your surface colour and finish
- Filling — the compound is applied to the chip in layers, building up to the surface level
- Curing — the repair is allowed to cure (which may involve a UV lamp for some materials)
- Sanding and finishing — the repair is sanded flush and polished to match the surrounding gloss level
How Long Does It Take?
A single chip repair typically takes between 45 minutes and 2 hours depending on the size and complexity of the damage. Multiple repairs in the same visit are more efficient — the technician can work through a list in a single day if needed.
After the Repair
Your technician will show you the completed repair and explain any aftercare recommendations — typically avoiding abrasive cleaning products on the repair area for 24–48 hours and using a suitable surface protector going forward. The surface can usually be used normally after a short curing period. You’ll be able to inspect the repair before the technician leaves.
