Stone resin baths — sold by brands including Victoria + Albert, Kaldewei (enamelled steel), Bette (titanium steel enamel), Lusso Stone, Clearwater and many others — are premium bathroom products characterised by their exceptional warmth, sound-deadening qualities, and luxurious appearance. They’re also significantly more expensive than standard acrylic baths — which makes getting a chip or crack repaired professionally even more important.
What Is Stone Resin?
True stone resin baths (like Victoria + Albert’s QUARRYCAST material, or Lusso Stone’s composite resin products) are made from volcanic limestone, natural minerals and resins, cast in solid sections without a separate coating or lining. This is different from enamelled steel (Kaldewei, Bette) which is steel with a vitreous enamel coating, and from acrylic baths with stone-effect finishes. The repair approach differs for each.
Repairing True Stone Resin Baths (Victoria + Albert, Lusso Stone)
Victoria + Albert QUARRYCAST and similar true stone resin baths chip more cleanly than acrylic. Because the material is solid (the colour goes through the full thickness), chips reveal the same material underneath — which means repairs can be colour-matched using appropriate composite fillers without the colour differential you’d get with a coated product. Results on white and off-white stone resin baths are typically excellent. On coloured stone resin baths, colour-matching requires care and skill but is achievable.
Repairing Enamelled Steel Baths (Kaldewei, Bette)
Kaldewei and Bette baths are made from steel with a vitreous enamel coating. They’re extremely durable but when chipped, the steel beneath is exposed and will rust if not protected. Enamel chip repair uses specialist enamel fillers and topcoats to match the original surface. These repairs are watertight and protective — preventing rust progression — and on white and standard enamel colours can be very close to invisible. Kaldewei’s own ‘Perleffekt’ and textured anti-slip surfaces are more challenging to match perfectly, but functional repairs are always achievable.
Cracks in Stone Resin Baths
Cracks in solid stone resin baths are uncommon but can result from impact or from improper installation (insufficient support beneath the bath allowing flexing). Small cracks can be filled, stabilised and finished. Larger cracks may indicate a structural issue that needs addressing alongside the cosmetic repair. We’ll assess the crack type and recommend the appropriate approach.
