Stone resin baths — also sold as “stone” or “composite stone” baths — have become an increasingly popular choice in premium bathrooms over the last decade. Made from a mix of natural stone powder and resin, they’re heavier and firmer than acrylic, with a matt chalky surface that looks and feels like natural stone. But they can chip and crack, and repair requires specific materials and technique. Shazam Repairs carries out professional stone resin bath repair on-site.
What Stone Resin Baths Are Made Of
Stone resin baths (brands include Kaldewei Conoduo, BC Designs, Clearwater, Lusso Stone and many others) typically consist of a blend of natural mineral aggregate — crushed limestone or similar — bound with acrylic resin. The surface is usually the same material through the full depth, making them similar to solid surface worktops in terms of repairability.
Common Stone Resin Bath Damage
- Corner and rim chips — from dropped tap fittings, mirrors or hard objects
- Impact cracks — stone resin is more brittle than acrylic; a heavy impact can cause a crack that travels across the bowl
- Surface marks — marks from metal objects (tap fittings, plughole fittings) that embed into or react with the surface
- Staining — the matt surface is more prone to staining than glossy acrylic; limescale and coloured liquids can penetrate
How We Repair Stone Resin Baths
Chip repair on stone resin baths requires colour and texture matching — the matt, slightly granular surface of the stone resin is quite different from polished acrylic, and repair compounds need to replicate this texture to produce an invisible result. We use specialist fillers appropriate for mineral-resin composites and finish repairs to match the surrounding matt surface.
Cracks that run through the full depth of the bath wall require structural consolidation before cosmetic repair to prevent re-opening. We’ll assess the full extent of damage before beginning any repair.
