How to Clean and Care for Repaired Surfaces: Aftercare Guide

After a professional surface repair, a little care in the first few days — and sensible ongoing maintenance — will help ensure your repair lasts and remains invisible. This aftercare guide covers the key dos and don’ts for repaired worktops, baths, tiles and other surfaces.

Immediately After Repair

  • Keep the area dry for 24 hours — repair materials need time to fully cure before being exposed to water, even after the repair appears hard to the touch
  • Don’t apply cleaning products for 48 hours — cleaning chemicals can affect repair materials before they reach full cure strength
  • Avoid placing heavy items on a worktop repair for the first 24 hours
  • Don’t use abrasive pads or scourers on or near the repair area at any time

Ongoing Care for Repaired Worktops

  • Use a soft cloth or sponge with mild washing-up liquid for day-to-day cleaning
  • Avoid bleach, descalers, oven cleaners and acidic cleaners (lemon juice, vinegar-based products) on or near the repair
  • Don’t place hot pans directly on a repaired area — always use a trivet or pan stand
  • Wipe up spills promptly, especially acidic liquids such as wine, tomato juice or coffee

Ongoing Care for Repaired Baths and Shower Trays

  • Use non-abrasive bathroom cleaners only — cream cleaners and powder cleaners will gradually damage both the repair and the surrounding surface
  • Avoid bleach-based products on repaired areas
  • Don’t use a suction bath mat directly over a repair — suction pads create stress on the surface when removed
  • Rinse and dry the bath or shower tray after use where practical to reduce limescale buildup

Ongoing Care for Repaired Tiles

  • Clean with mild bathroom or tile cleaner
  • Avoid abrasive scourers on tile surfaces
  • Keep grout lines in good condition — failed grout around a tile repair can allow moisture ingress
