How Long Does a Surface Repair Take? What to Expect on the Day

One of the most common questions we get from customers is: how long will the repair actually take? The answer varies depending on the type of surface, the nature and size of the damage, and how many repairs are being completed in a single visit. Here’s what to expect.

Typical Repair Times by Job Type

Worktop Chip Repair

A single chip repair to a quartz, granite or composite worktop typically takes 1–2 hours. This includes preparation, filling, curing, sanding and finishing. Multiple chips on the same worktop can often be completed in the same visit with minimal additional time.

Bath Chip Repair

A standard acrylic or enamel bath chip repair takes 1–3 hours depending on the size and depth of the damage. The material needs time to cure fully before the bath can be used — we typically recommend leaving it 24 hours before getting it wet.

Shower Tray Repair

Shower tray repairs are similar in duration to bath repairs — typically 1–3 hours on site. We recommend leaving the repair 24–48 hours before use, particularly for acrylic shower trays where the repair needs to fully bond to the surface.

Tile Chip Repair

Individual tile chip repairs can be very quick — sometimes 30–60 minutes per tile. However, if multiple tiles need repair or if the colour matching requires careful custom mixing, the visit may take longer. We typically book a half-day or full day for large tile repair projects.

Floor Repairs

LVT and vinyl floor chip repairs are typically quick — 30–90 minutes for individual damage points. Natural stone floor repairs may take longer if grinding and polishing is required.

What Happens During the Visit

  • Assessment — the technician examines the damage in person and confirms the repair approach
  • Preparation — the area around the damage is cleaned and protected
  • Repair — filling, bonding or colour matching as appropriate
  • Curing — some materials need UV or heat cure time
  • Finishing — sanding, polishing and surface blending to match the surrounding area
  • Review — the technician walks through the completed repair with you

How Much Disruption to Expect

Most repairs are completed in a single room and require minimal disruption to the rest of the property. We bring all our own tools and materials, lay protective coverings and leave the work area clean and tidy. The kitchen or bathroom may be temporarily out of use while the repair is in progress, but is usually available again within a few hours.
