One of the most common questions before booking a surface repair is: how long will it take? The answer depends on the type of surface, the size and complexity of the damage, and how many repairs are being done in one visit. Here’s a realistic guide.
Typical Repair Times by Damage Type
Small Chip on Plain Worktop (White or Single Colour)
A single small chip (under 10mm) on a plain-coloured surface — white quartz, black granite, cream Corian — typically takes 1–1.5 hours from arrival to completion. This includes setup, cleaning, filling, initial cure, sanding and polishing.
Chip on Complex Patterned Stone
Granite or quartz with complex mineral patterns, veining or sparkle requires more colour-matching time. Allow 1.5–2.5 hours per chip, sometimes more for very complex patterns.
Bath Chip Repair
A single chip on an acrylic or enamel bath typically takes 1–1.5 hours. Multiple chips or a large chip to an enamel bath with extensive rust treatment may take 2–3 hours.
Tile Repair
A chipped tile in a plain colour is a 45 minute to 1 hour job. Patterned tiles, mosaics or multiple tiles in a shower take longer.
Multiple Repairs in One Visit
The time doesn’t scale linearly with multiple repairs — setup is done once and the technician is already on-site and colour-matched. Two chips typically take 1.5–2.5 hours rather than double the single-chip time.
What the Appointment Involves
The technician will assess the damage on arrival, mix and test the colour match, complete the repair in layers with curing between each, then sand and polish to the correct finish. You don’t need to do anything except provide access — no preparation needed on your part.
