Granite composite sinks — sold under brands like Franke, Blanco, Schock and Reginox — are among the most popular kitchen sink choices in mid-to-high range UK kitchens. They’re tough and durable, but they can chip, particularly around the waste hole and at the rim. This guide covers professional granite sink repair.
What Is a Granite Composite Sink?
Granite composite sinks are made from approximately 80% granite stone dust (quartz aggregate) mixed with an acrylic or polyester resin binder. The result is a very hard, non-porous, heat-resistant sink that looks and feels similar to solid granite but is lighter and more affordable. Despite the “granite” name, they repair in a similar way to other composite stone products.
Common Granite Sink Damage
- Waste hole chips — the most common area, caused by draining utensils or cutlery catching the edge
- Rim edge chips — from pots, pans or utensils catching the rim edge
- Surface chips — from dropped heavy items
- Scratches — from abrasive cleaning or cutlery
Colour Matching Granite Sinks
Most granite composite sinks in the UK are sold in black, anthracite, white, cream, grey and champagne. Black and anthracite sinks are by far the most common, and our technicians carry specialist dark compounds for these shades. Granular or speckled finishes (which mimic natural granite aggregate) require careful texture blending as well as colour matching.
