Anthracite grey UPVC — also sold under RAL 7016, Slate Grey and similar names — has become one of the most popular window and door colours in the UK over the past decade. It offers a contemporary, premium aesthetic at a more affordable price point than aluminium. However, it also presents some specific challenges when it comes to surface damage and repair.
Why Coloured UPVC Is More Challenging to Repair
Traditional white UPVC is relatively forgiving to repair — white-on-white repairs blend easily and there is no colour matching required. Anthracite grey and other coloured UPVC profiles are a different matter. The foiled or co-extruded colour finish has specific characteristics that require a skilled approach to match accurately.
Common Issues with Anthracite Grey UPVC
- Chips and gouges — from installation damage, impact or wear
- Scratches — from grit, keys, tools or cleaning with abrasive materials
- Fading and discolouration — UV exposure can cause lighter patches on south-facing frames
- Foil lifting — the decorative foil on coloured UPVC can sometimes lift at edges and joints
- Paint or coating damage — from incorrect cleaning products or chemical contact
How We Repair Anthracite Grey UPVC
Our technicians carry a wide range of grey shades and can colour-match on site to achieve a repair that blends into the surrounding surface. We use specialist flexible resins and coatings designed for UPVC that flex with the frame, ensuring the repair doesn’t crack when the profile expands and contracts with temperature changes.
The finish is carefully matched for sheen level as well as colour — matte, satin and gloss versions of anthracite grey all require slightly different finishing techniques.
Other Coloured UPVC We Repair
As well as anthracite grey (RAL 7016), we regularly repair:
- Chartwell green (RAL 6021)
- Cream and ivory (RAL 1015)
- Black (RAL 9005)
- Agate grey (RAL 7038)
- Woodgrain foil finishes (golden oak, rosewood, Irish oak)
Is UPVC Repair Worth It?
Replacing a window frame because of cosmetic damage to the surface is expensive and disruptive. On-site repair typically costs a small fraction of replacement and can produce an excellent result when carried out by an experienced technician. If you have a chip or scratch on your anthracite grey frames, repair should always be your first call.
