Burnt worktops are one of the most common forms of kitchen surface damage — and one that many homeowners assume is impossible to repair. In many cases, they’re wrong. Professional surface repair can address scorch marks, heat damage and surface burns on a wide range of worktop materials, producing results that are far better than living with the damage.
Types of Burn Damage We Repair
Laminate Worktop Burns
Laminate is the material most commonly burnt — a hot pan placed directly on the surface leaves a distinctive brown-black scorch mark and often melts the laminate surface beneath. These burns can be repaired by carefully removing the damaged area and filling with colour-matched flexible filler, then refinishing the surface. The result is significantly better than the unrepaired burn, though the texture of a patterned laminate may be challenging to match exactly on complex designs.
Quartz Worktop Heat Damage
Quartz worktops are susceptible to thermal shock — placing a very hot pan on engineered quartz can crack or discolour the resin binder. This type of damage can be repaired in many cases, though extensive cracking from thermal shock may require a section repair or edge repair rather than a simple fill.
Solid Wood Worktop Burns
Wood worktops can be sanded and refinished if the burn is relatively superficial. Deeper burns that have charred the wood beneath the surface may require a more involved repair using wood filler and a coloured finishing treatment, but are still very much repairable in most cases.
Granite and Natural Stone Burns
Natural stone worktops are highly heat-resistant and rarely suffer burn damage — but they can discolour from prolonged direct heat contact. Where discolouration has occurred, professional polishing and surface treatment can often restore the original colour and finish.
When Is Replacement the Better Option?
Where a laminate worktop has suffered very extensive burn damage across a large area, or where the damage extends to the core material, replacement of the worktop section may be more practical than repair. Our technicians assess each case honestly and will advise if repair is not the best value option.
