The kitchen sink is one of the hardest-worked surfaces in any home, and chips are common — from dropped plates, pans and cutlery. Whether your sink is composite, ceramic, fireclay, stainless steel or cast iron enamel, professional repair can restore it without the cost and disruption of replacement.
Composite Sink Repair
Composite sinks (brands include Blanco, Franke, Schock and Reginox) are made from quartz or granite mixed with resin. They chip in a similar way to quartz worktops — the material breaks away leaving a lighter-coloured void. Repair uses colour-matched two-part epoxy mixed to the specific composite colour. Results are very good on plain and near-plain composite colours.
Ceramic and Fireclay Sink Repair
Ceramic and fireclay sinks (Belfast, butler and farmhouse styles) are generally white or cream and develop chips from heavy pots and dropped items. Colour matching to white and cream ceramics is straightforward. The chip is filled with a ceramic-specific compound and finished to match the gloss level of the surrounding surface.
Stainless Steel Sink Repair
Stainless steel sinks develop dents, scratches and corrosion rather than chips. Minor dents can sometimes be pushed back, and surface scratches can be refinished. Significant corrosion or large holes are not repairable and require replacement.
Cast Iron Enamel Sink Repair
Cast iron sinks with enamel coatings (common in period properties) can chip to expose the iron beneath, which rusts quickly. Early repair seals the rust and restores the enamel surface. Extended rust exposure may require rust treatment before surface repair.
