Composite Worktop Repair: Fixing Chips and Damage on Minerva, Earthstone and Similar Surfaces

Composite worktops — made from a blend of natural stone and polymer resin — offer the look of stone with greater flexibility and lower cost. Brands such as Minerva, Earthstone, Swanstone and similar offer a wide range of colours and finishes. But composite worktops can still chip, scratch and sustain heat damage. This guide covers professional repair options for composite worktop damage.

What Are Composite Worktops?

Composite worktops are sometimes grouped with “solid surface” materials — Corian is the most famous solid surface brand. Composite and solid surface worktops consist of acrylic or polyester resin combined with mineral fillers (often aluminium trihydrate). They’re non-porous, seamless when joined correctly, and can be repaired by sanding since the colour runs all the way through the material.

Common Composite Worktop Damage

  • Chips — edges and corners are most vulnerable; impact from heavy objects causes chips
  • Scratches — surface scratches from utensils, keys or abrasive cleaning
  • Heat damage — burns or whitening from hot pots or pans placed directly on the surface
  • Cut marks — deep scratches from knives used directly on the worktop
  • Staining — some composite surfaces can absorb dyes from red wine, coffee or turmeric if not wiped promptly

Professional Composite Worktop Repair

Because the colour runs through the material, composite worktops have an advantage over other surfaces — surface scratches and light marks can often be sanded and buffed out without any colour-matching requirement. Deeper damage (chips, burn marks) requires filling and colour-matching, but composite materials generally accept professional repair well.

Edges — which are often the most vulnerable point — can be reshaped and refinished professionally where the damage is significant.

Minerva, Earthstone and Brand-Specific Repair

We have experience working with Minerva, Earthstone, Hi-Macs, Corian, Swanstone and similar composite and solid surface products. Colour-matching is available for standard colourways from these manufacturers; rarer or discontinued colours may require bespoke pigment blending.
