A chipped sink is immediately obvious every time you use it. Whether it’s a ceramic bathroom basin, a stainless steel kitchen sink, or a fireclay Belfast sink, most chips can be professionally repaired — often for a fraction of replacement cost.
Ceramic and Vitreous China Sinks
Ceramic bathroom sinks are very hard but chip under sharp impact — typically at the rim or edge, exposing grey or buff ceramic beneath the white glaze. A colour-matched epoxy filler rebuilds the chipped area, which is sanded smooth and finished to match the surrounding glaze. Results on white sinks are typically near-invisible at normal viewing distance.
Belfast and Fireclay Sinks
Belfast sinks are made from dense fireclay with a fired vitreous glaze — similar to ceramic but much thicker and heavier. See our full Belfast sink chip repair guide for detailed information on this specific material.
Stainless Steel Sinks
Stainless steel kitchen sinks suffer from scratches (very common), rust staining from leaving metal items in contact, and dents from heavy impacts. Deep scratches and minor dents can be addressed professionally; results are very good, though the grain direction must be matched precisely for an invisible finish.
Composite and Resin Sinks
Composite sinks (resin with crushed granite or quartz) chip at rims and edges. Colour-matching is more complex than white ceramic but a skilled technician achieves excellent results. Never attempt DIY composite sink repair — colour mismatches are very obvious on textured composite surfaces.
Undermount Sinks
Undermount sinks mounted beneath the worktop are particularly difficult to replace without damaging the worktop. Repair is almost always the right choice for undermount installations — the repair cost is a fraction of a full undermount replacement including new worktop cutout.
